Avalon Road was recorded at Faraway Studios in Manchester on July 12th 2002, the album was recorded "live", as was the debut album, "songs of the desert" to capture the music as it happened in performance rather than the more usual approach of building each song up, line by line and note by note to achieve 'perfection'.

The following day some of the songs had additional backing vocals, percussion or instruments added to them before being mixed down awaiting release in October 2002

The cartoons of the band on the inner sleeve of the album were drawn by Pat Clarke, as was the caricature on the inner sleeve of Bob Russell who did so much to help bring the album into being

Photography for the cover artwork was by Ian Cudlip, the scene on the rear of the album shows Alderley Road, Wilmslow, Cheshire viewed from The Kings Arms where the band formed in Summer of 2001.
